Traffic Case Records in Macon County
State-law traffic tickets in Macon County land in General Sessions Court under its criminal jurisdiction. Circuit or Criminal Court can enter the picture later. That happens after an appeal or a further stage in the case. A ticket written under a Lafayette or Red Boiling Springs ordinance, though, stays in that city's municipal court. So the court printed on the citation is your first and best routing fact.
A traffic court file can hold a lot. It may include the citation, summons, court dates, a plea or trial, the judgment, costs, payments, and any appeal. Macon's county portal offers combined Circuit and General Sessions search choices. It does not advertise a citation-number field. So you may need the clerk to translate the number printed on your ticket into the case number the court system uses.
Macon County Traffic Court Routes
Which office holds the record depends on who issued the ticket and which law it cites. County state-law matters start with General Sessions. Lafayette municipal tickets go through the city court channel, and Red Boiling Springs tickets go through its City Hall or city-court clerk. Neither city posts a public online citation search.
| Traffic route | Official starting point | Access fact |
|---|---|---|
| Macon County state-law case | General Sessions and county portal | Select General Sessions and Criminal, then search by case details. |
| Lafayette municipal case | Lafayette Municipal Court | Published court schedule exists, but no online city citation lookup was found. |
| Red Boiling Springs municipal case | City Hall or City Court Clerk | Official code and contact exist, but no online city docket was found. |
City courts in Tennessee hear ordinance and traffic matters within their authority, and the Tennessee municipal courts overview lays out that structure. The state page shows the municipal layer of Macon County's traffic court map.
This state structure does not fold city cases into the county portal. Read the issuing court on the citation before you choose a docket search.
Macon County Traffic Ticket Lookups
For a county case, open Macon Online Court Records Case Search. The form takes a Party Name or Case Reference. It also wants Case Year, Case Number, Court Type, and Case Type. Set Court Type to General Sessions. Set Case Type to Criminal. The portal is a public case search, not a dedicated citation service or e-filing system. It can help you find the court case behind your citation.
- Read the citation for the court, citation number, alleged law or ordinance, and appearance date.
- For a county matter, search the portal with the case year and case number if known, using General Sessions and Criminal.
- If only the citation number is known, call the Circuit and General Sessions clerk at 615-666-2354 for the related case number.
- For Lafayette, use the municipal-court route or City Hall at 615-666-2194. For Red Boiling Springs, call 615-699-2011.
- Visit the relevant counter when online and phone checks do not resolve the case, and confirm the current date before travel.
The portal also accepts a name or Case Reference search, but a broad search can pull unrelated cases. Macon County posts no public courthouse terminal, local traffic mail-request process, or city citation-payment workflow. And a published fax number is not proof that the clerk accepts faxed pleas, copy orders, or payments.
Macon County Traffic Search Fields
Treat the portal's search fields as case fields, not a city ticket form. The example 99GS1-2023-CR-12345 shows one case-number pattern, and when it applies you type only the numeric tail in the Case Number box. A citation number may follow a different format.
| Field label | Type | Use and format |
|---|---|---|
| Party Name | Text | Public name as shown in the record; use instead of Case Reference. |
| Case Reference | Text | Alternate local reference criterion; do not fill it with Party Name at the same time. |
| Case Year | Year | Year the case began, not the latest event year. |
| Case Number | Number | Use the numeric tail when the portal example applies. |
| Court Type | Choice | Select General Sessions for a county traffic matter. |
| Case Type | Choice | Select Criminal for a state-law traffic matter. |
If the search challenge blocks you, or a new ticket has not shown up yet, call the clerk or visit the counter. A no-hit search does not cancel the date printed on the citation.
Traffic Court Dates in Macon County
Read the citation first. It is often the clearest notice of the appearance date and court. Then search the county case if one applies, and call the clerk as the date nears, since a continuance may have occurred or the online terms warn that data can change. Macon County publishes no full daily trial-court calendar.
| Citation or case number | Use the ticket number to contact the issuing court; use the related court case number in the county portal. |
|---|---|
| Court and case type | General Sessions and Criminal for many county state-law traffic cases; municipal court for a city ordinance case. |
| Date and time | The appearance or later setting; compare the ticket, notice, order, and current clerk entry. |
| Place | County Justice Center or the municipal location named by the city court. |
| Event and status | Appearance, hearing, trial, reset, continued, disposed, or another clerk-entered label. |
Lafayette posts a set municipal schedule on its Municipal Court page: the fourth Tuesday of each month at 2:00 p.m., held at the Lafayette Police Department, 118 East Locust Street. Red Boiling Springs posts no online court calendar, so call its city contact for a hearing date.
Missing Macon County Traffic Court Dates
A gap in the portal does not suspend the citation. Check the court named on the ticket. Search with the right court and case filters. Call the clerk before the printed date. If two notices conflict, ask which order or clerk entry controls now. Write down the office you called and the date of the call.
County cases route to 615-666-2354. Lafayette municipal matters go through the city or its municipal-court page. Red Boiling Springs matters route to 615-699-2011. Never assume a county docket search covers either city system.
Near-term citation: Treat the date printed on the citation as active until the issuing court confirms a different setting.
Paying a Ticket vs Fighting It
A payment link is not a decision about how to respond to the ticket. The citation and the named court control everything. They set the methods and the deadlines. The county clerk's public-access page says payments run through the online service. The public search, though, is not a stand-alone traffic payment form. Confirm the case, the amount, and the effect with the clerk. Do that before paying.
| Paying the ticket | Contesting the ticket |
|---|---|
| Follow the named court's current acceptance method and deadline. | Follow the citation's appearance or response instructions and contact that court. |
| Confirm the case, amount, and disposition that payment will enter. | Confirm how a response is entered and when the court will set the matter. |
| Keep the court receipt and verify that the case balance and status update. | Keep all notices and verify any later hearing date with the clerk. |
Macon County publishes no deferred-disposition list, defensive-driving policy, local fine table, photo-enforcement policy, or city citation-payment workflow. Do not guess your options from another Tennessee court's rules.
Macon County Traffic FTA Steps
A failure to appear starts in court. But it can trigger a second process with your driver status. Tennessee Safety support gives drivers 30 days from the day the department receives the court's FTA notice. That is the window to satisfy the court and submit the release. The state page also lists a $65 reinstatement fee. It does so under its cited framework. Failure to appear and failure to pay are treated as separate issues.
Missed setting: Contact the Macon County or municipal court at once, obtain any required release, and then confirm separate Driver Services action.
The Tennessee Safety failure-to-appear instructions lay out the timing and the release step on the state side. Read them carefully. Paying the court and clearing your state driver status are two different acts.
Check both systems yourself. A court receipt alone does not prove Driver Services finished its part, and a driver-status screen is no substitute for the court's disposition paperwork.
Two Records: Court File and Driver File
Two files, two offices. The traffic case in Macon County court lives with Rick Gann's clerk office. That office holds court events and case documents. The Tennessee Motor Vehicle Record belongs to the Department of Safety and Homeland Security. An MVR can cover three or ten years of driving history. It falls under driver privacy rules. It is not an open-name county court search. The official Tennessee MVR page explains what the record contains and how to request it. That state source also shows why a Macon court docket and a state driver file must stay separate.
For the citation, plea, judgment, costs, and court status, go to the clerk. For the state-held driving file or license status, go to Driver Services. Sensitive driver identifiers belong only in the official state request process.
Macon County Traffic Record Flow
A traffic matter can cross systems without merging them. The basic flow is: citation → court appearance → plea or trial → judgment and costs → possible report to Driver Services. A missed appearance may add a release and reinstatement path. Each step can have a different date, entry, and custodian.
- FTA
- Failure to appear in the court as required.
- FTP
- Failure to pay, which state support materials distinguish from FTA.
- Disposition
- The court outcome or status recorded for the charge or case.
- MVR
- The separate Motor Vehicle Record held by Tennessee Driver Services.
- Reinstatement
- A state process that may remain after the court requirement is satisfied.
Ask each office about its own paperwork. The court confirms the disposition and any release; Driver Services confirms its own status. Neither one can certify the other's record.
Macon County Traffic Court File Comparison
This two-file split also shapes how you order copies. A certified judgment comes from the clerk of court. A certified MVR goes through the mail route published by Tennessee Safety, which lists online, in-person, and mail channels for MVR requests but names mail as its certified-copy route.
| Feature | Court traffic record | Driver file |
|---|---|---|
| Custodian | Macon court clerk or municipal court clerk | Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security |
| Shows | Citation, events, setting, plea, judgment, costs, payment, and appeal | Driver history and state status within the agency's published scope |
| Access | County portal, court phone, or court counter | Official MVR request with driver-specific proof and fields |
| Certified item | Ask the originating clerk about a certified judgment or docket copy | Use the certified MVR mail method listed by the state |
Never type a Social Security number, license number, or date of birth into a general court-search tool. Those fields have one proper home. Use them only in the secure state agency process for an MVR request.
Traffic Record Copy Fees
Macon County publishes no traffic court copy-fee table. The county's 2026 Circuit filing schedule does not set prices for plain or certified traffic records either. So ask the issuing court directly. Get the current page, certification, archive, research, and delivery charges before you place an order.
| Item | Published fee | Custodian or next step |
|---|---|---|
| Plain Macon traffic case copy | No local amount published | Ask the county or municipal court clerk. |
| Certified Macon court copy | No local amount published | Confirm certification and delivery with the issuing court. |
| Tennessee MVR | $5 | Use Driver Services online, in person, or by mail. |
| FTA reinstatement fee | $65 in state support guidance | Complete the court release and confirm state requirements. |
The state charges $5 for an MVR. Its mail route takes a cashier's check or money order, goes to the MVR Request address in Nashville, and allows two weeks. Remember, these are driver-file facts, not Macon court-copy prices. Keep a receipt from each office and verify each record on its own.
