Start your Macon County civil court docket search by picking the right court. Macon County civil court dockets live in three separate places, since General Sessions, Circuit, and Chancery keep their own records with no shared public index. The county case portal serves two of those courts. Chancery sits with a different clerk. Finding a case and its history is one thing. Pulling the complaint, order, judgment, or a certified copy usually means asking the responsible clerk directly.

Macon County Civil Docket Court Split

General Sessions comes first for the civil matters the county page lists. Think lawsuits of $25,000 or less, evictions, warrants to recover personal property, and orders of protection. That summary is not a universal answer for every claim. Circuit and Chancery take on higher-level or specialized work. Their dockets cover civil, domestic, equity, probate-related, and appellate matters, under Tennessee law and local allocation. Jurisdiction close or unclear? Ask the clerk.

Court route Examples in Macon research Access start
General Sessions Lower-dollar claims, eviction, property recovery, protection orders County portal or Circuit Court Clerk
Circuit Court Torts, contracts, divorce, adoption, appeals, general civil County portal or Circuit Court Clerk
Chancery Court Equity, probate-related, domestic, and assigned civil matters Clerk and Master

A city ordinance dispute may follow a municipal route. A federal civil case belongs in the Middle District of Tennessee. Neither lands in the Macon trial portal just because a party lives in the county.

Civil Dockets: What They Show

A Macon County civil docket is a dated register of case activity. It shows the filing year, party labels, service activity, settings, motions, orders, judgments, and disposition. Not every entry promises a document image online. The complaint spells out what relief was requested. The answer states a responding party's filed position. The order records what the judge directed. The judgment captures the formal result. Each document holds detail a short event line cannot carry.

Case number The court identifier used to track the civil matter.
Filing A document submitted to begin or advance the case.
Service Proof or status of delivery of process. Filing costs may differ with service.
Setting A date for a hearing, conference, motion, or trial.
Disposition The recorded way the matter ended or changed status.

Column names on the live portal vary by result. Treat the terms here as schema-level guides. Ask the clerk to explain any local event label that is unclear.

Macon County Civil Docket by Numbers

The Tennessee AOC fiscal 2024–25 report recorded 133 Circuit civil filings. It logged 137 dispositions for Macon County. Those figures are court aggregates, not individual records. Divorce without minor children was the largest filing category at 32. Damages and torts accounted for 19. Adoption or surrender took 18, miscellaneous general civil 16, and residential parenting or child support 15. One lesson follows. A plain “civil case” label may not point to the right record path.

The same report lists 34 dismissals, 19 compromises or settlements without a hearing, 13 uncontested or default outcomes, two transfers, one nonjury trial, and no jury trials in that reporting row. That describes a single fiscal year. It cannot predict how any pending Macon County civil docket will end.

What Cases Fill the Civil Docket

Macon County civil dockets cover a wide span. Contract and debt disputes, tort and damage claims, and real-estate matters all appear. So do divorce, parenting and child-support cases, adoption, parentage, interstate support, General Sessions or Juvenile appeals, and other general civil filings. Eviction and property-recovery matters fall to General Sessions within its county-described scope. Read a court label together with the filing itself. One broad type can cover several forms of relief.

Domestic, adoption, parentage, support, and protection-order files often hold private facts. A public index entry does not open every exhibit or identifier. Ask for the precise document needed. Ask whether a redacted copy is available. Juvenile-related appeals may carry added limits even when an aggregate AOC table lists the category.

The Macon Circuit fee schedule lists filing categories that help with the clerk's filing vocabulary. A price row proves nothing about whether the related record is public. It does not show what a copy costs.

Macon County Civil Docket Chancery Route

Kristin Reid serves as the Macon County Clerk and Master. Her office is distinct from Rick Gann's Circuit Court Clerk operation. The distinction matters. It is also separate from the County Clerk. That office handles administrative and vehicle services. A common local error sends an equity or Chancery request to the public Circuit and General Sessions portal. Reading a no-hit as proof no case exists compounds it. The official AOC Clerk and Master directory supplies the Chancery contact route.

The directory connects each Chancery record to the office that holds it. Before placing an order, confirm the current counter, the fee, the copy type, and how the records will be delivered.

Hearings on the Civil Docket

A setting is a court date, not necessarily a trial. Macon County civil dockets can list motion hearings, status conferences, settlement proceedings, nonjury trials, and other events. A continuance simply moves the date. A dismissal ends a claim or the whole case, depending on the filed order. A transfer is different. It shifts the matter to a different court or venue. Always read the newest entry, since an earlier setting may no longer control what happens.

The 15th Judicial District local rules cover calendar and docket-setting practice for Chancery matters. The clerk posts no official Macon daily trial calendar, though. Confirm any hearing with the responsible clerk and the latest notice. If a portal date conflicts with a filed notice, call before you appear. Tennessee Rule 55 lets a court allow remote technology at its discretion. That permission alone does not prove a specific Macon hearing is remote.

Note: A clerk can tell you what the docket says. But only the court can grant a continuance or change a hearing.

Macon County Civil Docket Documents

A civil docket entry can help you locate a case. Yet it cannot stand in for the complaint, proof of service, answer, motion, order, judgment, settlement, or cost record. Request each item by name. Give the clerk the court, the case number or reference, the date range, the event date, your preferred format, and your delivery choice. Without a case number, offer a name and an approximate filing year. Skip private identifiers.

Inspection and copying are two different requests. Ask to inspect first when reading is enough. Then ask whether a plain copy works or a clerk-certified copy is required. Tennessee Rule 26 governs official electronic recordings used in a trial record. A recording is not the same thing as a docket sheet or a transcript.

Fee check: The published 2026 Macon schedule prices court filings and service. It is not a universal copy-fee schedule.

Filing costs shape what shows up in the record. The clerk-linked 2026 Circuit filing-fee schedule lists $374.50 without service for a Category 1 Circuit civil filing and $426.50 with one service. Copy and certification costs still require confirmation from the clerk.

Read Macon County Civil Docket Dispositions

In the AOC report, settlement, dismissal, transfer, default, and trial are separate outcome paths. A settlement reached without a hearing is not the same as one a court approves. A dismissal may resolve a single claim or the entire matter. A transfer sends the case elsewhere. A default or uncontested result carries its own filed judgment. Each event label points you toward the next document to request. The label alone rarely spells out every term, though.

Macon County's fiscal 2024–25 row showed far more court-approved settlements and dismissals than trials. That aggregate is local context, not a rule for any current civil docket. Read the order behind the disposition. Then check whether later motions or an appeal changed the status. A civil case can stay active after a partial ruling. The newest docket entry matters most.

Who Can See Civil Dockets

Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 34 presumes court records are open to inspection. Access can be restricted in several ways. A code provision, another law or rule, or a court order can all limit it. Protected data may simply be redacted. Sealed documents, internal judicial material, and legally confidential records can be withheld. The rest of the case file can still stay public.

Access check: A public Macon County civil docket entry does not make every complaint attachment, exhibit, address, account number, medical fact, or child identifier public.

If a record is restricted, ask which part you may inspect. Also ask whether a redacted version exists. When access turns on party status, identity, authorization, or an order, ask the clerk exactly what proof to send first. Macon County publishes no court-record request form or copy-fee policy of its own. The clerk sets those steps at the counter.
